Avdiivka Coke and Chemicals Plant of the Metinvest Group has allocated UAH 11 million for preparation of utility systems for autumn and winter, securing the heating season in Avdiivka town.

Every year the plant supplies hot water and heating to households and facilities: all high-rise residential buildings, administrative offices and social infrastructure (hospitals, schools and kindergartens).

In September, Avdiivka Coke overhauled a heating pipeline connecting the plant and the town. The system was damaged by artillery and mortar shells. This initiative helped to supply heating to the town in due time. As municipal utility companies prepared only 10 of 147 high-rise buildings by the heating season, the plant undertook some winterization efforts to supply heating to residential buildings and social facilities. In cellars of sixteen high-rise buildings, plant workers have overhauled utility systems and keep replacing unserviceable pipes in other ten houses.

The plant’s employees are also replacing worn-out utility networks in a central hospital and have already repaired external heating pipelines there.

In addition, Avdiivka Coke has provided municipal utility companies with pipes of different diameter, ball valves, mineral wool insulation, flanges, seamless bends and cast iron gate valves to repair external and internal heating networks.

The plant bought 1,500 heat radiators for Avdiivka residents to replace unfrozen heating elements. Vulnerable categories – single senior citizens, people with disabilities and large families – receive them free. Heating batteries are delivered to residents by plant’s workers and volunteers.

Avdiivka Coke CEO Musa Mahomedov:

“The start of the heating season was tough in Avdiivka: heavy shelling and a lack of water in the system last year have significantly damaged the utilities. Once we started feeding water into the system, we faced new problems – cracks and ruptures. We had to stop and mend them several times. We have done a great job together with municipal utility providers and will go on to ensure that every building and every family has the heating.”

Avdiivka Mayor Yuriy Cherkasov:

“With the help of the town’s mainstay [Avdiivka Coke], we have embraced the unembraceable. Just a month ago, fewer than a half of high-rise residential buildings were prepared for winter, but today we have supplied heating to all buildings thanks to AKHZ and municipal utility companies. Now we are repairing ruptures in internal utility networks.”
