Avdiivka Coke and Chemicals Plant of the Metinvest group are rebuilding street lights along one of the most congested motorways in the town. Locals call it “a road of life” as this is the only way to the mainland – it connects Avdiivka town and the plant, its mainstay. This is a daily commuting route for most of Avdiivka Coke employees.
The plant’s workers have restored about three kilometres of the lighting system and repaired 125 street lamps, making the road section from the plant to Gorsad bus stop well-lit and safe.
They have done a complicated and hard work: they checked continuity of the electricity lines, repaired all damages caused by shelling and replaced lamps.
“As autumn sets in, it gets dark earlier, and the lighting issue has come to the forefront in Avdiivka,” says Avdiivka Coke CEO Musa Mahomedov. “Every day many locals use the road to the mainland as they call it.” It is a commuting route for plant’s workers. An absolutely dark road damaged by shells brings risks of traffic accidents. So we’ve decided to repair street lights to ensure people’s safety.”
This work is underway. Avdiivka Coke plans to light a road section to a BUM store and farther to the town marketplace.
