Ukrtelecom CEO Yuri Kurmaz made the statement in his interview for Ukrainski Novyny.
“Speaking of eastern Ukraine, we keep operating there. Very often people in the conflict area see landline as the only available way to stay connected. Therefore, we support our network there as much as possible and rebuild destroyed infrastructure wherever we can. Year to date, we have restored 800 km of communication lines to provide uninterrupted services. Thus we renewed access to the fixed-line telephony for about 200,000 subscribers,” he went on to say.
Kurmaz added that Ukrtelecom saw no interference with operation of its network in the conflict area, except damaged cable infrastructure and stolen cables.
He stressed that the company manages to collect payments for its services in eastern Ukraine, yet not to the full extent. Therefore, this fact has negatively affected the company’s financial and operational performance.
