Vega Telecommunication Group
Vega Telecommunications Group is a leading fixed-line operator in Ukraine providing broadband Internet access and data transmission services.
Vega Telecommunications Group operates across Ukraine (except the Crimea and temporarily non-government controlled areas in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts).
Current status
As of October 2017, Vega Telecommunications Group continues to provide communications services to its clients in five towns of Donetsk oblast: Druzhkivka, Mariupol, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.
Since 23 January 2017, Vega temporarily suspended telecom services in five cities and towns in the non-government controlled areas in Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts such as Donetsk, Makiivka, Luhansk, Khartsyzsk and Shakhtarsk.
The hostilities in Donbas have partially damaged Vega’s infrastructure causing problems in providing telecommunication services to residents of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Safety of Vega employees is the company’s number one priority. The operator takes every effort to ensure safe working conditions for the specialists restoring communications lines.
Vega employees have been working hard to support and maintain communications and infrastructure in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. The company’s specialists conduct repairs and do everything they can to ensure that people in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts can call emergency services or contact their family and friends.
In July 2014 – July 2015 Vega has restored damaged communication lines in Sloviansk, Shakhtarsk and Luhansk that were cut off from communications for a long time. On 12 July 2015, its specialists repaired a trunk cable between Donetsk, Makiivka and Khartsyzk that was damaged in June 2014.
October 2015:
- Vega restored a fiber optic transmission line feeding Donbas Arena.
- Vega restored the trunk cable damaged by the fighting in July 2014 in Oktiabrsky settlement of Donetsk. Also, the company repaired equipment at DON-K-031 station and started reconstructing subscriber networks at the settlement.
In November 2015, Vega installed two battery units at Donetsk-based HOST.
In December 2015, Vega continued to repair the damage caused by the hostilities in Donetsk Oblast.
The company rebuilt:
- a fiber optic line connected to MAK-К-003 (Makiivka)
- a fiber optic line connected to FTTH zones in Grabari and Grabari II settlements
- a distributor cabinet at DON-K-012
- a DON-K-005 station .
In January 2016, Vega restored fiber-optic line to connect FTTH 1 Gradostroiteley area and completed the repairs in February 2016. Thus, they re-established service provision to the subscribers who returned to their permanent residence in Donetsk. Currently, Vega continues to rebuild the FTTH areas in Kuibyshevsky district. In addition, the company began to restore the major fiber-optic FTTB area, Gladkivka, disconnected since July 2014.
In February 2016, Vega completed restoration of FTTH area at 1 Gradostroiteley, Donetsk.
In March 2016, the company:
- finished the first phase of repairs of FTTH zones at 2 Gradostriteley and 3 Gradostriteley, Donetsk;
- completed the first phase of rebuilding the fibre optic communication mains in FTTB zone at Gladkivka district, Donetsk. In addition, the company re-launched equipment in Polissia business centre in Donetsk.
In April 2016, Vega:
- competed the first phase of rebuilding efforts near DON-K-044 station (Putylivskyi Gai district, Donetsk);
- re-connected a part of subscribers to DON-K-030 station (Adminselyshche-2 district, Donetsk).
In May 2016:
- Vega carried out restorations works for subscribers of DON-K-023 and DON-K-044 (Putilovska Roscha area). Also, it helped restore communication lines for its key client Donetsk Steel Rolling Plant.
In June 2016:
- Vega conducted research and provided analytical support to restore FTTH services at 2, Gradostroiteliv, Donetsk.
- DON-K-031 FOCL damaged in May 2016 was put back into operation.
In July 2016, scheduled repairs were underway.
In August 2016, Vega:
- Repaired the equipment and power input damaged by fire in the office of Industrial Union of Donbass (the location of DON-K-05). The accident response helped restore the operations of DON-K-058, DON-K-055, DON-MDU-055, DON-MDU-005, DON-K-031, DON-K-016, DON-K-023, DON -K-078, DON-K-044, DON-K-074 and DON-MDU-074 stations;
- Prevented an attempt to loot equipment from the same facility.
In September 2016, Vega:
- Reconnected 110 subscribers (telephony + ADSL) on Leskova Street (Donetsk);
- Restored and modernised the network on Kulibina Street (Donetsk, the location of DON-K-001). The equipment had been damaged, with copper backbone cables partly stolen.
October 2016:
- An aggregation point at 2 Gradostroiteley (Donetsk) was rebuilt to provide FTTH-based services.
- The company continued reconnecting subscribers at Kulibina Street (Donetsk, location DON-К-001).
November 2016:
- The first phase was completed to restore line structures of the FTTH zone at 2 Gradostroiteley (Donetsk).
- The company continued reconnecting subscribers at Kulibina Street (Donetsk, location DON-К-001).
December 2016:
- Services were resumed for subscribers in the FTTH zone at 2 Gradostroiteley (Donetsk).
In 2017, the company launched external WiFi base stations at PortCity shopping mall in Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast, to provide Internet services to its visitors.
