Avdiivka Coke and Chemicals Plant has set to repair another kindergarten in partnership with the town authorities.
The plant is going to install exterior doors and energy-efficient plastic windows. To this end, Metinvest Group will channel more than UAH 300,000.
The Avdiivka-based kindergarten has been open for almost six decades and attended by up to 75 children yearly in the peacetime. It had to suspend operations when the hostilities broke out. The facility was damaged by shrapnel hitting the roof, windows, utilities and play pavilions.
Today, only three out of seven kindergartens operate in Avdiivka. As more and more families with small children are coming back to the town, the other kindergartens need to resume their usual activities as soon as possible. Moreover, the kindergarten is located in a remote district of the old part of the town and is the only preschool facility in the neighbourhood. Thus, the local authorities decided to rebuild it with the funds raised from the local and regional budgets. Avdiivka Coke is going to help and install exterior doors and new energy-efficient plastic windows. The plant has already replaced windows on the first floor of the kindergarten.
“We are looking forward to the rebuilding of the kindergarten. It is our dear daycare centre. My elder child attended it,” said Lubov Molchanova, mother of the three-year-old Yana. “The nearest kindergarten is an hour’s walk away from our house and it is very inconvenient and problematic to take children there.”
In addition, local authorities are preparing designs and cost estimates to reconstruct the boiler room and facade of the kindergarten and overhaul the heating facilities and interior rooms.
“Last time the kindergarten was repaired a long time ago. The heating facilities were really worn-out, and we were always having drafts through the old windows. We could never get warm during cold seasons,” said Yuliya Saar, the acting head of the kindergarten. “We are grateful to all committed people for their help. Our kindergarten will become warm and cosy at long last. I’d like to believe that we will hear children’s laughter once again.”
Metinvest Group’s Avdiivka Coke, local town council and local civil military administration signed a social partnership agreement for 2016. This year, AKHZ is going to allocate UAH 9.5 million to fund social programmes.
