Avdiivka Coke and Chemicals Plant (AKHZ) is completing the restoration of roofs of the multi-storeyed buildings damaged by shelling. To this end, Metinvest Group has channelled almost UAH 2 million.
Over the period of hostilities in Avdiivka, shells destroyed 20 roofs of high-rise buildings. AKHZ undertook a large-scale restoration of damaged houses: they dismantled damaged structures, repaired roof and floor slabs, installed slate roofing tiles and ventilation systems.
The plant is completing repairs of the last house at 9, Vorobiova Street, which was stripped of about 30% of roofing slates as a result of multiple shells.
“First, we needed to repair damaged roofs. We faced many challenges: many builders left the town during heavy shelling, and third-party contractors were afraid to come. Also, we had problems with the delivery of materials to Avdiivka,” said Valery Popov, head of the department for capital construction at AKHZ. “But we understood our responsibility – Avdiivka residents could not live through the winter with broken roofs. Despite all the obstacles, we managed to complete restoration works before frosts set in.”
AKHZ helped to restore roofs for 2,500 families of Avdiivka.
“I experienced all the problems caused by the damaged roof. If it rained a little, the roof started dripping. I put basins to collect water leaking from the ceiling. Damp walls were covered in mould. Due to the constant dampness, I got sick more often and frequented the local pharmacy to buy more pills,” complained Iryna Marchuk, resident of a house on Karla Marksa Street. “The damaged roof gave me a lot of trouble. Thanks to AKHZ workers, it’s all in the past. I want to thank them for not leaving us in trouble. I’m not afraid of any whims of nature now.”
We remind that Metinvest has allocated UAH 18 million to repair residential houses, kindergartens, schools and other important facilities of Avdiivka.
