Alternative railway route constructed in Mariupol

Illich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal completed the construction of the alternative railway route bypassing the bridge over the Kalchyk river destroyed in a terrorist attack, and re-established railway connection between the seaport in Mariupol and Mariupol-based steel enterprises.
Illich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal funded repairs and provided rail products. The alternative railway route has been built jointly with Ukrzaliznytsia.

AKHZ shelled and damaged

Shells landed on AKHZ and damaged equipment in desulfurization shop No.1 and the heating pipelines. Electric cables were also severely damaged. Several shells landed in the near vicinity of the administration building and amenity premises No.1 where shrapnel and blast blew out windows and doors.

Heavy artillery shelling of AKHZ

Heavy artillery shelling damaged two high-voltage lines powering AKHZ and destroyed railway access tracks at Avdiivka railway station. Donetsk filter station was cut off from power. AKHZ normal operations were disrupted as a result of significant damages caused to the railway tracks and the overhead railway system of Avdiivka.

AKHZ employees injured

Two AKHZ employees have been injured when shells hit the AKHZ infrastructure shop: a man suffered moderate injuries and a woman – skin-deep injuries.
The plant’s medical staff provided first aid to the wounded employees.
They were taken to the central municipal hospital and their lives are in no danger.

Heavy shelling hit AKHZ

Another heavy shelling hit AKHZ, injuring three employees and damaging the core equipment of the plant. All AKHZ resources are being used to bring the plant back to normal operations.

AKHZ repair crews have repaired the equipment significantly damaged by shelling on 16, 17 and 18 January 2015.

The main shops are back in operation. The plant has resumed production.

Metinvest helps rebuild damaged houses

The ongoing hostilities and shelling damaged houses of more than 80 workers of Metinvest Group’s KhTZ. “Aid+Help” Humanitarian Center of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, Metinvest Group, KhTZ, its trade union and staff provided financial assistance to rebuild the houses and apartments of the plant’s workers.

AKHZ damaged by shells

The core equipment of AKHZ was damaged by shells and the plant had to suspend operations. To date, production of furnace coke has been resumed. No reports of any injured AKHZ employees.

Shelling of Makiivka branch of YeMZ

The territory of Makiivka branch of YeMZ was shelled on 6 February. Projectiles hit the gas pipeline and set the coke gas pipeline on fire. As a result, all rolling mills stopped.

AKHZ and DTEK specialists managed to restore power supply to the plant by connecting it to two high-voltage lines Makiivka-AKHZ-1 and Makiivka-AKHZ-2.

YeMZ relaunched rolling business

As soon as pig iron and steel production was resumed YeMZ relaunched rolling business putting two mills at Yenakiieve and Makiivka back in operation. Mill 390 at Makiivka branch of YeMZ produced finished products again after a two-month downtime.

AKHZ re-launches desulfurization shop No.1

AKHZ specialists managed to re-launch desulfurization shop No.1 suspended on 11 January as a result of damages caused by the hostilities. AKHZ workers conducted repairs within the shortest possible time and launched the shop as soon as the power supply was restored.

Metinvest resumed operations at YeMZ, which started producing pig iron and steel. The plant launched blast furnace No.5 in the standard operating mode, was about to finish blowing in blast furnace No.3 and made several lots of cast billets.

After a long downtime caused by the hostilities a tar processing shop is back in operation. As a result, 100 people have kept jobs at the plant.

Mill 150 at Makiivka branch of YeMZ was put back in operation after two months of downtime. The company fully resumed steel rolling.

Shells landed on AKHZ killing one worker and injuring two. Projectiles damaged the core equipment. One worker was killed and two got injured.
The staff are repairing the damage.

AKHZ heavily shelled again

AKHZ was heavily shelled again. Over forty projectiles landed on the plant’s premises. None of AKHZ employees were killed or injured but the plant suffered extensive damage, in particular, at the coke and coal preparation shops. Also, four high-voltage lines powering AKHZ were damaged causing an immediate shutdown. The plant suspended coke production. The emergency stoppage did not lead to any negative environmental implications. No leakage of harmful substances and waste water discharge reported.

On the night of 11-12 July, AKHZ (Metinvest Group) was heavily shelled. Two employees got injured.

AKHZ resumes operations

On 17 July, the plant’s specialists charged batteries of coke shops No.3 and No.4. Thus, seven coke batteries are being used for production, with the eighth coke battery under repair. Also, desulfurization shop No.2 and collection shop No.2 were recommissioned after a long downtime.

Mariupol-based Illich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal are restoring the railway bridge over the Kalchyk river between Sartana and Mariupol stations, blown up in a terrorist attack in December 2014. The reconstruction will ensure smooth operations of the steel plants and enhance the safety and convenience of passenger transportation in the region. Reconstruction will take three months and cost UAH 12 million.

AKHZ was heavily shelled again. This time the shelling cut off power supply and damaged the plant’s railway infrastructure. None of AKHZ employees were killed or injured.

The plant resumed operations according to the planned target. DTEK and AKHZ specialists restored electricity to the plant by repairing the high-voltage lines. To date, seven coke batteries are in operation, with one under repair. The plant produces 6,900 tonnes of gross coke per day.

Avdiivka Coke restores residential buildings

Metinvest Group’s Avdiivka Coke has completed repairs of three multi-storeyed buildings. The plant provides construction materials to restore private houses and has already channelled about UAH 1.5 million.
